Hey everyone,

I'm hoping I can get some help on this subject. I'm going to be building a keytar and have already got a rough sketched design of the final shape, and have now bought a cheap controller to strip down.

Only problem is I'm crap at drawing and need to do a final design thats specific to the controller I've bought. Taking into consideration what circuit board will go where etc etc...

So I was wondering if anyone knows of any softwhere that I could use, so I can import my rough sketch, make it 3d and smooth it out. and then work out where to place all the components. Also think it'd be quite handy to get everything to scale and see how the design looks in 3d.

I stumbled on DAZ3D on google but I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing I'm after...

Can anyone with the tiniest shred of knowledge on this topic please help me out??

Thanks in advance

there's google sketchup and inkscape but they got a somewhat learning curve.

Thanks Orphe. I'm going to give sketchup a try. Seems much more simple than DAZ3D and also seems like the right kind of design software I'm after.

However if anyone has other suggestions please keep them coming... incase sketchup doesn't work for me

Thanks

Rhinoceros has many limitations, some of which like creating holes in a surface are a pain in the ass.

I got sketchup cause it was free AND legal :biggrin:

And I've since been dabbling in it quite a lot and its very user friendly and very versatile considering its free software.

But I'm happy using that for now. Does everything I need it to

Thanks guys

Blender [3D] maybe, but I think it's very complicated but free of I am not mistaking, might be interested for other people who are looking into this.

I was going to suggest Blender as well, but you might also want to look into some other free design apps such as BRL-CAD, QCAD and Archimedes, as well as Eagle.
