On Tuesday and Wednesday 10th and 11th November the Sandbach School Big Band, following on from last year’s sell out concerts, will be playing host to one of the country’s leading vocalists – Matthew Ford. Having fronted the legendary Syd Lawrence Orchestra for over 5 years Matthew was voted ‘Best UK Male Big Band Vocalist’ in 2006 and later that year invited to perform with the world famous Halle Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. October 2006 saw Matthews’ ‘Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club’ debut as he was invited to perform with the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra at the famous Soho venue. In November 2006 Matthew joined the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Radio 2 presenter Ken Bruce for the ‘60’s show’ at the Hackney Empire London.
March 2007 saw Matthew nominated alongside Jamie Cullum and Ray Gelato for UK Male Singer of the Year’ in the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Awards.
Throughout the concert, Matthew will be accompanied by the Sandbach School Big Band who returned last summer with rave reviews from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performances received two independent “4 star” reviews – an immense achievement for any ensemble. In recent years the group has worked with many of the country’s leading musicians including Georgie Fame, Derek Watkins (Trumpet with James Last Orchestra, The Beatles, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue) , Simon Willescroft (Saxophonist with Duran Duran) Gordon Campbell (Lead trombone with the BBC Big Band), Elliot Henshaw (Drummer with Tony Christie) In addition they have been finalists at the National Festival of Music for youth (2007), undertaken tours of Berlin and New England USA and given a performance to some two thousand people at the 2007 Primary Proms Concert at Chester Cathedral. In June 2009 the boys performed a sell out concert with the Bluejuice Band in a ‘James Bond Spectacular’ again sharing the stage with some of the country’s finest musicians.
The programme for the two evenings with Matthew will be a selection from the great hits of Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Mat Monroe, Dean Martin, Michael Buble, Tom Jones and others including I’ve got you Under my Skin, Sway, The Good Life, For Once in My Life, Feeling Good, It’s not Unusual, Top Cat, Bad Boy Leroy Browne, My Funny Valentine, Ain’t That a Kick in the Head, You and I, That’s Life and many other favourites.
These special evenings will start at 7.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday 10th /11th November in our Theatre Space (formerly the Drama Studio).
Tickets are available from the schools’ pupil reception on 01270 758873 and the main School reception on 01270 758870 priced £7.50 for Adults and £6 for concessions.
