There's no mystery about *why* it's dead--the ribbon that runs beneath the keys is shot. Why the ribbon's bad is the mystery--with no identifiable breaks in the part of the cable that connects from the left side of the keyboard to the pitch wheel assembly, there's just no conductivity to the connecting pins. I had to peel the plastic away from a portion of it to test the conductors, and even though they *look* a little grotty, they still conduct...just not for the last few inches between the peel and the pins. And then, in the course of testing, working with a silver-ink pen, and so on, one of the pins eventually just snapped off. That's that.

My options, it seems are a) new ribbon or b) new keyboard assembly. Replacing the ribbon looks like a real pain. So I suppose I'm seeking a replacement 76-key keyboard assembly for a 1997 rev. B K2500.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

many thanks

Sorry to hear about that! You should pay a visit to Sonikmatter forum and talk to Dave Weiser

I've had my aftertouch stop working on my k200xs, when I opened it up I discovered the connecting ribbon into the pitch wheel module had came loose, i'd just push it back in BUT that was never a real fix, it was suggested I use a hot glue gun to secure the ribbon to connector. That makes sense although that project has been on the back burner for years, i.e. I'm currently without black key aftertouch.

Sounds like your ribbon cable is shot (obviously) I would try replacing the ribbon cable only.
