Some famous metal band such as Metallica doesn't need keyboard in their song.
If you have to cover their songs, what sound will you use? and how do you play?
As the guitarist? or fill with other different sound?

I post this thread, because sometimes I'm pretty confuse about what to play when my band covers metal songs like MOP, Enter Sandman, Anthem (Trivium), etc.

Play the second guitar part with a cheesy guitar patch and wait for next song

You are passing up your chance to be Metallica's newest band member!!!!

For cover songs, you don't want to change the overall sound too much, but you aren't actually Metallica - and you have a keyboard player - so use him as if you were playing with Metallica!

In other words, write your own new parts to it! I love covering songs that don't have any pre-written keyboard parts because then I get to pretend I'm in that band writing my own part to their original song!

I personally think it would be boring to simply take someone else's guitar part and then mimic it on the keyboard.
