I recently bought a friend's old Alesis QS6 64 Voice Expandable Synthesizer. It appears do have some decent patches...but I was unable to find a cool lead patch similiar to DT's common synth lead shreddin parts...maybe because it's not a Kurzweil!...haha

If anyone out there can suggest which QS6 patches are cool to use in prog rock/metal and/or how to edit them so that I can achieve a similar typical prog metal synth lead tone, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

I do have a QS8, which is the same board except for the number of keys, and I agree that the lead presets are so-so... I mainly use it for acoustic sounds anyways. I have made a few decent leads but I think the effects are a bit weak (distortion etc.). I havenīt checked out the expansion boards, perhaps there are some interesting stuff on those...

I havenīt tweaked it in a while, but Iīll give it a new shot and post here if I come up with something interesting!

Thanks for the feekback Quili! I may end up using soft synths in the near future like SampleTank2...I should be able to make some custom lead tones and sounds out of it......I'll just use the QS6 as my midi input/trigger instrument...more than likely headed in that direction....what do ya think?

I have an alesis qs 7.1, and if I remember correctly, that has pretty much the same patches as a qs6

here are some cool ones

Screamer! 105 preset 1 - good solid synth lead
ShineOn... 106 preset 1 - doesnt really sound like the pink floyd song but works if you need an airy, lighter tone
BPF Lead preset 1- see above
PortaWheel 105 preset 2 - bring the modulation wheel up and it sounds like it could be a minimoog
Trilogy Ld 107 preset 3 - emerson lake and palmer!
Touch & go 90 preset 3 - taken from the elp song of this name, way better version of it on the synth card though
Grit Organ 22 preset 1 - nice deep purpleish organ
56 Obersphere- for like a nice warm phil collins like pad

I do suggest the vintage synth qcard if you want more rock keyboard stuff, it had a lot of great pads and leads like an analog synth

as far as editing goes I suggest getting the book ALESIS qs made easy by hal leonard publishing, helped me learn a lot
