"...so you can look at your dream theater mousepad while you surf the dream theater message boards!"

Maybe Mike doesnt remember he shut down the DT message board like 2 years ago!

Anyway, this looks sweet and I might try to get it if it's not super expensive.

I got it for €68,30 in total, so including shipping and stuff =] Pretty nice price, considering that the vinyl here in Holland probably would sell for €30,- (instead of ($27,49) and the deluxe edition for like, €20,- or so. So I would have payed €50,- euro anyway. Well, and for all the extra's, €18,30 seems very reasonable to me. =)

Oh...I sooo don't like their marketing plans ???

Sounds like all those ridiculous ads on TV...

BTW : I don't blast the product, just the way it is sold...sounds really anoying to me.

And, to be honest, I think they kind of abuse of their ultra fanatic fanbase. They know they'll sell them all fast, but I wouldn't feel "right' to do that, that way.

Just my opinion, and wanted to know if I'm the only one who think that ??

Edited : by the way, I'm not just talking about this limited edition stuff, all the marketing for the new album sounds wrong to me.

I don't know how much I actually paid. but it was 132.00 USD, which is what the set was going for when they first announced it, (I don't know if it has gone up since then!) I don't know how that converts to Canadian these days, I'd better check my VISA balance.

I probably paid slightly less than 175.00 USD.

Well, I wasn't complaining about the price, just the way it is sold. I wouldn't complain if it was at an higner price, but more "fan-friendly".

Did someone noticed the marketing plans of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) lately ? He is an inspiration to me (musicaly AND as a business man), and true inovator (and no record label behind him...).

Could you expand on what you mean by you don't like the way it is being sold? I don't really understand your perspective.

It just doesn't feel "right". Sorry for being that vague...personally, as an independant artist that try to find new ways of marketing my music in this now dying music industry, I wouldn't do something like that.

I really don't know how to explain more

Mathieu! I understand your opinion, it was very Teleshop style and I dont understand why they need this "όber" marketing.

I personally find disgusting another thing, that if I want to meet the band backstage I have to pay for it in the form of extra pricey tickets. Its ok to pay for a concert, CD, because they play, I like it, its amusement, but paying for meeting someone personally and talk for 5minutes? Its cashing on the die hard fans' love I think. It must be very very hard to meet my loving fans after the show, its hardcore work really, so I make it cost X USD. Very nice. Surely it would be impossible to make it free.

I just try to imagine... Im a succesful musician, I'm talking with my fans about the show, laughing, joking, having good time (or just they having good time) and I know they paid for this conversation...could this be naturally a good feeling? And oh, guys, five minutes, ok, thanks, bye...and oh, buy the mega super box too, need another house, haha. Jeeez. :)

Its very strange that everyone talking about that XY is very cool musician, cool guy, he/she does everything for the fans, but does anyone realizes (or just a few of them) that all costs money? And I speak not just about DT. This world is speeding in the very wrong direction, everything is just for money.

Or am I just another idiot like the reviewer guy in another topic? :D

Well for me, what made the Box Set worth it was the producer tracks. I think this is a fantastic idea...it will be fun to sample and chop and create beats from Mikes kit....

or just to use for odd time rythms in practice or writing inspiration. There arent many good odd time loops out there so I am really looking forward to this....

I admit the ad is cheesey, and I can't tell if Mike is doing that purposely in a tongue and cheek way or if he means it seriously.

However, I don't have any problem with the band's current marketing. They know their audience and are giving them the type of things they want. That's not taking advantage of fanaticism. That's supply and demand. Why shouldn't a band we like put out products we want? We get something good and they make money...that's business... If you don't want the box set, they're still selling the normal CD...
