Yeah.. definetely true! I also was expecting it..

but it is obviously because the video clip would have been too long then.. and guitar solo are more common than bebot ones ;-)

Looks great! Let's hope it gets played.. I don't watch any kind of music television so I don't know how much attention they give to good music nowadays.

That was interesting. I definitely liked it more than the last video. I liked the design of the whole creepy cult guys.

Loved it! Def. DT's most professional looking clip. Not enough JR though. Both visually and musically...

They should make a full 8:30min long video for the real DT fans and stop trying to fit it into commercial standards. Most of us will see it online anyway and would prefer an unbutchered version.

what a killer video.
WAY better than the one for Constant Motion.
They edited the song quite nicely too, other than cutting out Jordan's killer solo, and the wacky Bebot part :).

OASYS looks badass in the dark. Too bad about JR's cut solo.

I like the song ! and will probably love the album.

But...I watched the recent MP interview of him talking about the album, and I just don't like how he present the album ??? To him, it's like a normal DT album with every DT classic elements and everything, but to me...it sounds NEW. And I'm not one of those that are unhappy with their new sound. I really love how they sound now, and the music they write, but to say it's classic DT ?? not in my opinion.

This was the same with Systematic Chaos. New sound, but MP describe it as a classic DT album. Am I the only one who think that they should accept the fact that they have changed ? (or maybe it's just the fans that see their music differently?)

Edit : Ah and I wanted to add : Comparing the new albums to the old is a bit pointless, and I think that saying "The new album is everything DT" motivate people to compare. isn't it ?

Great video! My favorite so far in all of DT's history. Perfect combination of band and script, and both of them looking great!

Only thing I would have changed: More Rudess, definitely more Rudess.

Yeah maybe because classic DT elements include every album sounding new and different

Yeah I agree, on that, every albums sounds different. But I think it's a bit false to say that only one record can summarise Dream Theater, as MP tend to say since Systematic Chaos.

The new record will be a PART of Dream Theater, not EVERYTHING Dream Theater.

But anyway, it's just words after all...I'll wait and enjoy the new record when it's out !

Btw, was it really snowing? That is because they look a bit painful by snow and cold wind. hmmm...I'm not sure...

Maybe I'm the only one, but I find it to metal...

Or maybe it's just my music taste that is changing, but I don't find what I loved in DT 3-4 years ago...

Well... just my opinion.

Remember though, the whole point of a music video is to try and sell the band to the listening public.

It'd be nice if prog metal was widely embraced by that public but it's not...so it has to appeal to as wide an audience as the label attracts...which is generally "metal" fans.

I hope it gets some good play time.

I listened to the two songs from the album and for me DT ended their progressive status. Its generic melodic metal in the new trends. Generic heavy riffs with melodic chorus, some guitar and key solo chorus again, end. The nightmare to remember ditto, but it got some gothic start and calm mid section. They play good music, but this is not the DreamTheater music i like. I bet the other songs wont change this trend either. Again they made quickly an album with all ingredients to please the new fanbase and thats all. But if its the music they love and want to play its ok for me.

Well, I really have to say that I don't like it that much till now...^^ (this may change the more often I listen to it, but we'll see)…
Neither the Song nor the vid^…
Seems like I'm alone with my opinion...?

I miss Awake, I&W, SFAM, SDOIT....why doesn't JLB sound like the 1990-2002/06 JLB? Or why do they use soooo much effects on his voice! This whole thing is too radio friendly/gothic for me! The prog part has some good moments to offer but all in all it's no hightlight! SC is a good album, no DT classic in my opinion, but it's good music, however, "A Rite…" is really exhausting to listen…
I hope that this is the only "radio friendly" song besides "wither" (like MP denoted in an interview) and the remaining songs of the Album are going to be better…
Well, I'm a full-heart DT fan but I dunno if I like the direction DT is going…

I'm here with you. Feel exactly the same. I was hoping that DT will one day revisit their roots, I&W, Awake, even FII, glad I wasn't holding my breath. I'm not here to stir a debate or make anyone angry. Obviously DT has moved on to a "new" and obviously persisting direction since "Train of thought", and that's towards more metal style and influence, less complexity...etc. If it's working for them, then kudos to them and I wish them more success, but unfortunately it's not my cup of tea :(

Best.

I too was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a segment in the video featuring the Bebot! But then I thought, honestly, how do you fit into a video of this genre a person shredding on an Ipod………..?

Then it came to me! Perhaps a little editing could be applied to a version of the video to be used to segue into Zappa playing Zappa during that part of the tour?

Picture this………Right after the Grand Wazoo draws his sword, when the hooded gothic dudes are standing around the glowing cube; instead of them holding these crystalline looking objects, they’re holding up Ipods and playing a symphonic fusion of Bebot! The sound that’s coming from their devices begins to produce quantum strings that release the Harmonious Theory of Everything! At that moment, the great singularity explodes from the center of the cube. Higgs particulate flies in every direction, (Switzerland vanishes….ah maybe not) We’re all sucked through the event horizon to behold a new world, and Steven Hawking, flying in the clouds, liberated from the confines of his electric chair, and all stinkfoot, is cranking out awesome jambs on his Ipod! Zappa on Zappa……

Now that would make Frank smile, and that ain’t just cosmic debris!

That said, (and I really do like the idea above) I completely understand what Salty is saying. I’ve been to many a battle of the bands for the chance of getting that so called “contract deal!” I know we had the better music, and musicians……………but the winners would be the absolutely horrible death metal screamer band. That’s what the people came out to hear, that’s all that the promoters were going to get behind. They would often come and say, “you guys were really good, BUT……and set us up for another gig in some hole in the wall in another town as a consolation prize. What a game!

Speaking of Frank Zappa, I remember going to a concert of his back in the late 60’s. I will never forget him opening up by telling the audience that if they had come simply to be entertained by comedy, that they were going to be disappointed, because he had come to play music. You could have heard a pin drop in there after he said that. He was serious. He wanted to turn people on to some innovation, and creativity that couldn’t be found in the top 40 scene. Even the “underground” top 40 scene.

Frank knew how to market his music, and took full advantage of the so called “underground counter-culture“ that was popular in that day. If it hadn’t been for the audacious (at least in that day) album covers and lyrics, many people would have never come out to hear the incredible musical skills and genius that Frank had to offer. Lot’s of people got introduced to something more musically than what they had ever heard before this way……..just a thought.

“Hey…….there…….mister! Who you jive’n with that cosmic debris……. Well if the video get them in the doors, great, then mesmerize them with the “classic” DT musical genius!

I have this gut feeling (could be wrong) that people shouldn’t take this video too seriously…….there could be a surprise that’s just around the corner, but a little “drama” is good for surprises.

Well, couldn't find better words.. ;)
I also think that this "new gen. DT"-turn began with Train of Thought (although I like TOT, as a heavy metal fan, very much). It's a good album, but--> not a DT classic!
The last "full-classic DT" album is SDOIT according to my opinion…

I was also hoping for more DT-roots but, well the album isn't released yet so maybe I gonna be surprised.... :D, I hope so!

yeah Dream Theater used to be a magical mixture of everything from jazz to classical to metal now it is just metal. I was really hoping for another scenes from a memory with this album but it looks like its not going to happen ever in Dream Theaters lives.

i will listen to the new album but i think it is doomed to the same fate that Systematic chaos is on my ipod.

anyways I still have jordan's new album coming up and THAT WILL BE AMAZING!

I don't understand you guys. You are ALWAYS whining about how DT aren't as they used to be, and that you probably won't like the new album. How can you say that, when you haven't heard it yet?

I'm not sure you're listening to the same DT as I am. Where's the jazz and classical? It's all prog rock, man!

This album just went more on the mainstream metal side, and I actually like DT reinventing themselves and exploring more. I'm not a metal guy but this album (as far as only having AROP out) looks fine to me.

Dream Theater does not sound like the Elektric Band.

Trust me, I've been playing Chick Corea's stuff for years now... from RTF to Michel Camilo's version of Spain. And though, the CCEB incorporated rock elements at some time, it is mostly fusion [from straight acid to latin jazz with classic elements of the 80s and even bebop at times!], compared to prog/rock/metal by DT. Now, if we talk about LTE....

The video is very well done...
Obviously, the singles they release first will be the more mainstream songs. I sadly missed the dl of the full version of the song...I like the chorus but the flow of the song is off to me...I'm sure the full version is more balanced.

I'm not passing judgement until I hear the whole album. Think about the first single available off of other albums and think about what they made you think. Hell, SFAM released "Through Her Eyes" which had electronic drums on it! What were we saying then? So far I don't love Rite..., but I'm still looking forward to the album...

Seriously? Damn I can't believe that, through her eyes is in my opinion one of their most boring songs, up there with innocence faded.

I like Through Her Eyes as part of SFAM, but I never listen to it just on its own
