I jut felt the compulsive need to make it known how excited I am for this movie, as a lifelong Trek fan, and how awesome it is to see Trek have such an impact on pop culture and see people flocking to go see it, and critics raving about it!

I'm pumped to see the opening show tonight! :D

Watched it opening night. It was incredible.
I brought a friend who had NEVER seen an episode or movie, and he just couldn't get enough of it. There was applause and cheering throughout the entire film. This is trek for Trekkies and the average Joe too!

Watched it last night. I was quite pleased with it. Thought Chris Pine was a fantastic Kirk, probably the highlight of an overall great cast.

On the negatives... I thought there were too many patches of shaky camera work/CGI work, especially of the space battle scenes. Also the biggest problem was the ending, just seemed lackluster, neither Kirk nor Spock seems even moderately taxed by infiltrating an enemy vessel and saving the universe.

But the positives outway the negatives. 8/10.

I saw it last night too, and I 100% agree and couldn't have said it any better.

I brought my Girlfriend, and she happened to very much enjoy the film as well, despite being a non-trekkie :)

Great movie overall, but I think my biggest complaint was the CGI-camera thrashing like mentioned previously lol

I've brought two friends who have NEVER watched any Trek before, and both of them LOVED it.

My brother went to see it with a friend who is the kind of "jock" kid who would make fun of trekkies and nerds, and he was quoting it all day he loved it so much.

It really is a great film!
I'm glad it was, 'cause I've been waiting for it for two years!

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with that part - the CGI overall was very purdy... It was the whole fight-scenes and space-battles... There were parts where the screen would shake and it moved so fast that you couldn't get a control of what was where. It made it very hard to follow and see exactly what was going on.

*I was in IMAX so maybe it was because the screen was so large, but I heard others saying the same and they were just in regular theatres*

yeah, my wife hates Star Trek and even she wants to see it. Granted, she became more open to that possibility after hearing Howard Stern praise it (whatever that's worth). Whatever the reason though, I don't care, because I don't get a chance to see theater movies much these days and I'd much rather see Trek (even bad Trek) than most movies that come to the theater.

Although that Soloist movie with Jamie Fox looks good as well.

Well, I'd encourage you to see it on the big screen, it's one of those movies you just need to experience in a theater. And as for the shaky cam, I found I was able to follow the happenings, I can understand that some people may not be able to. But that's JJ's style. It's not as crazy as Paul Greengrass (Bourne Supermacy and Ultimatum).

Didn't say it wasnt fantastic, on the contray I thought it was great, but not without issues. Hopefully a new TV series will come of it (set in the post DS9 era and NOT a TOS spin off).

True though, it isn't The Bourne series. While Greengrass' direction is good, he kinda ruins the whole point of an action film for me when I can even make out the kind of techniques the protaganist is using to kill off his opponents (cause I like martial arts and all :P).

A crime that William Shatner never had a cameo appearance.

I'm looking forward to seeing the film on SAT with Mrs Fret.

Didn't he say that he wanted to be killed off in Generations in order to never have to reprise his role as Kirk? Or am I thinking of Brent Spiner in his Data role in the last Next Gen movie.

I think I read somewhere that they asked the Shat to be in the movie as a cameo, and he refused because the part was too small. The Shat would do that. haha.

I'm glad he didn't make an appearance. At least Leonard Nimoy (sp?) gave a certain aura to the story, I think Shattner's apperance would have felt like a forced extra and not contributed much. Also I can't take him seriously after seeing Boston Legal and those WoW ads.
