This guy I know has one (for guitar), which I initially thought was pretty lame, but after trying it out and thinkin bout it, it actually seems like it mite be a great way to build finger strength (especially in the pinky) while away from the keys.

Thoughts?

With eleven pounds of pressure per finger, i'd be less worried about my finger stamina, and more worried about cracking the piano keys as I play ;)

This does look intriguing.

11 pounds sounds extremely painful though

just bought the 5 pound version on amazon, ill let you know if it increases finger speed/ strength Loki

I've used the more classical hand trainers for years (like this one (http://www.alpha-1.de/assets/images/Handtrainer_02web.jpg))) as well as powerballs/gyrotwisters. The goal wasn't piano playing for finger strength, but I've never had any problems with finger strength (switched to weighted keys about a year ago). So it might help.

I'd watch out with the 11 pound version though, if you start out with that you'll end up injuring yourself really bad.

Ever since I heard about Schumann and his finger-strengthening device that ruined his hand I've stayed away from things like these...

On a grand piano, you need to apply roughly 16 grams of pressure to press down a key. Honestly, I don't see how this tool would be useful in any way. Strength is not a big issue. The weight of your arms provides you with all the force you need.

Unless I'm way off, you should never use the weight of your arm to press a key. You want to be using the strength in your fingers so as not to hurt yourself.

P.S. That's also why you want to practice (when without a piano) with your arm resting on a desk or chair arm.

ok this thing was a total waste of 10 bucks. If you want finger strength, learn dance of eternity.

Ha. I'd think just playing something fast and demanding would be better because it's in context.

By the way I wasn't laughing at your waste of money, it was your alternative suggestion.
