The US pricing took over the Motif's initial price points:
Motif ES 6: $1,999
Motif ES 7: $2,399
Motif ES 8: $2,999
But if you're looking at getting on Frank, let me know. I still have some contacts in the Chicagoland area, and I know I can get a deal on one. No guarantees, but I -might- even be able to swing one at cost. These boards are going to be hot sellers, so they're less likely to make a deal on one, but like I said.. I might be able to swing something.
I'm just worried about finding a place to give me a good offer on my Motif... but at this point I'm having my doubts. The only price I've gotten so far was at Sweetwater for $400... the thing is in perfect condition, nearly no wear, and has the expanded memory upgrade (64mb). Well... *Sigh*

Motif 6, 7, or 8?
The best bet is to try and sell it yourself. When a store buys used products, they're going to give you 40-50% of what they're going to sell it for. Since most of the time you're going to resell that equipment at 50% of original retail, you can pretty much judge that you're going to get 25% of what you paid for your gear.
It sucks, but that's the way the market is. On the other hand, if you sell it yourself, through a newspaper or Ebay, instead of splitting the difference with a store, you get to keep it. It just takes a little more effort, and has quite a bit more dangers associated with it.
As I was the manager of the keyboard department at one store, and recording at another, I bought in a TON of used gear. Sometimes I was able to give fair deals, other times my hands were tied.. Because I had control of pricing, I was able to cut down the price of whatever I was selling to make up for the low amount of money I was able to give for the used gear.
For example, I bought a used Trinity V3 for $500, to resell it at $850-1,000 (I eventually sold it at $1,000, without a problem. It lasted three days on the floor). That customer bought a Motif 6 ($1,799) that I gave him a great deal on ($1,400).
So my advice is to find a store locally to you, make friends with a salesman with enough clout to change prices, and work out a good deal.

I do really believe that shipping is MUCH cheaper than buying things in Germany!!!
Eh. It's a Motif-8. And being offered $400 for it was nigh instulting, to be honest. But oh well. I was gonna try EBay. BUT! I'm not ready to sell it yet, just planning ahead :)

The lowest price I have seen is RiksMusic.com. They quoted me $1700.00 shipped on a Motif ES6.

The best I've seen was from Music Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
ES6 $1595, ES7 $1895 and ES8 $2295.

That's beyond ridiculous for a Motif 8. A new Motif 8 goes for $2,399 here, so the most I could possibly sell it for would be around $2,100. I'd round that down to $2,000, which means I'd buy it in for $1,000. Condition would lower the cost more, but as you said, it's pretty much like new. Since the Motif 8 is a hot seller, manuals, power supply (standard power cable, not a friggin wall wart transformer/adapter) and accessories are easy to replace if you didn't have them, so buying one for $1,000 would make perfect sense.
Granted, if I had a Motif 8 that could've cost me $2,999 brand new, being offered a third of that would be insulting and heartbreaking, but being offered a seventh of it would be insane.
By all means, shop around.

That's why I cant' believe that places like Guitar Center seem to
take pride in "taking in your old or used gear and towards a great
trade" so much so that they advertise this.
This sucks. But I've seen people so desperate that it wouldn't
be unralistic to see a person take that $400 and put it towards
a new $2500.00 synth or whatever.
Sad, really.

That's just attempted marketing to get people in the door. Buying used gear is really a pain in the ass from a procedure standpoint, and Guitar Center has actually discovered a problem in that they have too much used gear because of that marketing. When I was at GC, corporate had gotten hooked up with InstrumentExchange.com, which is like Ebay for musical instruments only. They gave us a laptop, a digital camera, and a profile on the website to put our used instruments up for sale. I left GC before the whole system really came online, we were one of the first stores with content on the site. Because of my prior IT background, I was asked if I would handle the whole thing, which of course I did. :P
The website is still up, there's quite a few pieces of gear on it, although nothing spectacular. I don't know what GC has done since then, or how many stores are online with it, or if they've even continued it at all, but it's there, for what it's worth.
The sad part is I've had to make some seriously low offers to buy some used equipment, and apologetically explained to the customer, "I'm sorry, but X is as high as I can possibly go.", fully expecting them to not be able to take it, and understanding completely.. but then have had them do it. Supply an demand. Welcome to the world of today.
Oh yeah, did I mention that most employees get paid on a commission based upon their sales in gross profit? If a Motif 6 sells for $1700, and cost is $1,400, you made $300. But that Korg Trinity I mentioned sold for $1000, while it's cost was $500 (the price I bought it in for), just making $500 in profit.
More profit equals more commission. The salesperson is happy, and the company is happy. And to most people in retail, that is -all- that matters.
