I've to decide between these two Keyboards.....

I'd like to replace my Korg LE61 !!!!

Which do you think it's better.....

I've already a K2600 and a Nord Lead III.....(and a GREAT DX7)
....and obviously the Triton LE61.......

Which do you think it's better for my Triple Setup ?????

Once again, it comes down to the important information: What sounds do you want? Studio use or live use? What about your personal style?

If you want more traditional tones, go with the Motif.
If you want more dance/techno tones, go with the Fantom.
If you want a really buff sequencer, go with the Motif.
If you want a really user friendly interface, go with the Fantom.
If you want to take retire your DX7, get the Motif and the FM card.
If you want to keep your DX7, and add a whole palette of Roland JV sounds, get the Fantom and any of the SRJV expansions.
If you're interested in breath controller technology, get the Motif.
If you're interested in cool toys like D-beams and live loop processing, get the Fantom.

It all comes down to personal preferences, really. Me personally, I'd pick a Motif -way- before I picked up a Fantom, merely because of my tonal preferences. Not to slight the Fantom in any way, but the Motif has some beautiful pianos and EPs that the Roland just can't touch in my opinion.

Action alone makes me select the Motif. Fantom's a good board, but I can't stand playing one. Same with Korg. And Kurz. Maybe I'm just a snob about that stuff? :?

Yesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

but it also means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

For those who can't snag one, the Motif would be a great
next choice.

Tigerfolly,

In regards to your comments -

"live loop processing"
Actually even the original Motif did loop slicing and the Motif ES takes it to the next level with RealTime Loop Remix. Its pretty unbelievable.

"If you want more dance/techno tones, go with the Fantom. "
Have you played the Motif ES, or are you basing these comments on the original Motif?

Just a FYI

The Fantoms only take the SRX cards (4 slots) they dont take the older SRJV cards. On the plus side Roland has combined the SRJV cards, applied the newer COSM effects to the tones, and rehashed some of the older tones. There are some good SRX cards out there.

The Fantom also has a good ammount of traditional sounds as well.

I've played the Fantom S 88 key.
It sounds great and has a beautiful interface which seems
easy to navigate. I loved the grand piano mode/sounds.
The keys felt great and not at all noisy.
The drums sounded really punchy too.

Just the Motif. I've been out of the industry loop since January, and haven't even been in to see the Motif ES yet.

The loop slicing feature was a very cool feature in the Motif (and Triton, although I think the Motif method makes more sense, although I truly prefer the Korg interface), especially the time stretch without pitch change abilities.

I'm not saying that you can't do dance and techno on the Motif, it's got a brilliant palette of sounds, but I think the Motif (like the Triton) is one of those keyboards that will work absolutely wonderful in -any- situation, but you can't possibly have every single possible sound from every possible genre, but instead there's a buffet of everything, and you can load up with expansions that fit what you need it to do.

But the Fantom seems to be a little more limited in scope to me, in that it's like a workstation with the expansions for dance and techno already in it. Sure, you could use it for anything, you can use any instrument for anything, but if you're a big dance and techno fan, I think you're going to get more instant gratification with a Fantom out of the box than the Motif, which is why I said that as an option for choosing the Fantom.

I knew the next keyboard after the Motif was going to be a monster from the first time I saw the Motif. I said, "Just wait until they get feedback on what people think works and doesn't work, and then add the new features and natural technological evolution on top of it."

I'm just glad the Motif ES is pushing the envelope, instead of catering to a profit margin. It's a nice, and rare thing to see.

After a week, I think, even more now, that the ES6 would be the better
bet. I think the filters sound much more refined and smooth on the Yamaha.
I also prefer the ES's rom samples and though the two boards are
now similar in price, another issue the Yamaha scores well over the
Roland is polyphony.
