Music College

I don't know if I should study music anymore, all the teachers I've had have been so lousy...is it worth it? It might be because that college's program sucks, but are places like berklee and stuff worth it? I've been studying jazz at college 1 year and I haven't learned absolutely a thing, it's pretty sad teachers trying to improvise class, and they fail even at that.

I have such situation too. Sometimes I think that I will not play like Rudess. I tried to learn music with 3 teachers, all of those haven`t teached me a thing. I don`t know what to do =( I wish mr. Rudess gave us some advice.

If you can get into a good college and study under a good teacher, I think it's worth it. But I don't know what the state of the average American music college is (assuming you're from the States). Obviously you'll do fine at Julliard or Berklee, but you'll have be really good to get in.

If you haven't learned a thing then you haven't been placed properly. You need to tell your teachers that you're way ahead of what they're teaching and that you need to get some upper level instruction. Out of curiosity, what school do you go to, and what kinds of things are your teachers teaching?

Are you actually at a music college or are you just at like a community college in their "music courses." If so you're missing out big time. If you want to learn things other than classical berklee is your best shot, my dad graduated from there and loved it. However they don't give out many scholarships and if they do its not for much (their tuition being in the high 40k). However I was brought up in both a jazz and classical background so I'm actually finding it refreshing to go to a college that of course teaches mainly legit because I'm sharpening technique that really got lost when playing only jazz.
