Hi all,

Well, I've just downloaded a few MIDI files (congratulations to all those who worked for the JRMC), but now I want to see the notes written in partiture (or tablature or anyway you call it...)

which program can I use? (which can play ALL the notes)

thank's very much, bye!

Hi Rodkorn,

at first thank you for the kind words about the project I and Dave have worked out.
There are several programs that show you the notes of a MIDI file, the problem is that all of them cost money, some of them cost even very much money.
I still don't know a free program that shows the notes of a MIDI file, which is a pity.

Here are some examples of programs which would do the job:
Cubase,
Logic (new versions for Mac only),
Cakewalk.

Or for instance Sibelius (which I use) and Noteworthy Composer (I've heard of it, but never used this program).

Thanks very much to both of you,

I have an Original Version of Cakewalk (don't remember which one) which came with my SoundBlaster and I didn't even know what Cakewalk was for hehe, I'll install it right now...

thanks very much again, bye!!!

Although it appears you're looking for something to show you notation (the musical notes on the staff?), here's a couple that help with learning things from MIDI just as well.

Anvil Studio is a little MIDI studio program I ran across years ago. It will show you the notation for any of the MIDI tracks you select. It's also a pretty easy compositional tool if you don't have a keyboard around.

Another neat little program that someone here on the forum recommended a while back is the vanBasco Karaoke Player. It's just a MIDI playback program meant for karaoke, but it has a keyboard visualization that allows you to choose any of the tracks in the MIDI to view. It will play the notes in real time on the keyboard, so you can see exactly what is being played. You can also change the key and the tempo.

These are both small, free programs without many bells and whistles. If you're looking for more features, the other suggested programs are much better.

Thanks very much!!!

I'll try those progams too. The problem I found with cakewalk is that it shows the exact notes in the staff and it was very difficult for me to notice the pitch bending (I was playing the first Overture 1928 solo), but later I got it. Hopefully this other programs will make it easier.

Thanks again, any other recommendation is welcome!!

bye!!

Oh, that's one of the disadvantages of the MIDI format. You won't find a program that'll show you pitch bend or any other events. All you see are the notes, you can only hear anything else.

I see, anyway cakewalk shows something like a graphic which grows, etc. when pitch bending is used, so now I'll just have to improve my hearing abilities hehe...

The problem with cakewalk is that I can only hear the midi file once and I don't know why, then when I go to the staff window I press the "play" button and the notes which are being played become red and stuff but I don't hear anything... if anyone has an idea it's welcome, anyway I'll keep exploring this software hehe...

thanks again, bye!!
