View Full Version : Just played my first professional solo gig.

I played my first professional solo gig last night. Normally I play with groups ranging from trios to big bands (about 25 people). So I was a little concerned if I could make it for a whole gig by myself. It went fairly well. I passed out a couple of cards & got one request (BJ).

Congrats on the Gig !
I have been toying with the idea of doing some solo work, but I have no idea what should be on my set lists. Can you tell me what factored into your selection process ? Did you play Standards, Jazz, Pop, etc. Thanks for sharing any advice you have about going this avenue.

Keep it up. It becomes kinda addictive after a while,
especially as the crowds grow in size.

Yeah, I played all standards. It was a dinner party at a local casino for their VIPs. I played things like:

Someday My Prince Will Come
Over the Rainbow
Misty
Blue Bosa
All The Things You Are
I Get A Kick Out of You
Watch What Happens
Autumn Leaves
My Funny Valentine
Ain't Misbehavin
Body And Soul
This Masquerade (The worst "This Masquerade" I think I've ever heard)
Ain't She Sweet
All of Me

I would play the head, solo thru it a couple of times, play the head again, maybe solo thru one more time, and finish with the head. Since I didn't have that many songs, I tried to stretch out the ones I knew.
