I'm not sure who the "leader" is... but there is this:

http://vsl.co.at/en/65/71/84/1050.vsl

It ain't cheap, though.

I'm not familiar with the nuts and bolts of this stuff. I've just heard a few recordings that use this particular product, and it really does sound great. I believe Symphony X used this for their most recent album, Paradise Lost.

You can't go wrong with EastWest Symphonic Orchestra. There's also Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL), but it's extremely expensive and you won't get really good results if you're not experienced with midi programming, and orchestral scoring overall.

There's a cut down version of VSL available, called the Garritan Personal Orchestra - it's a lot cheaper than VSL, but contains many of the same samples.

It's absolutely incredible for the price. Something like $179. It's worth every penny.

The problem with Garritan Personal Orchestra is you don't have any articulations for any sound... For example, you just have a "First Violin" sound. You can't have your First Violin to play legato, staccato, pizzicato, etc... So I think it's somewhat limited in what you can do.

For less than 300$, you can have EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Silver edition, which have A LOT of instruments and articulations, and for the price it's a really complete library.

I use Vienna at work and while it does take some time and care, the samples are fantastic.

Don't know if the East West Symphonic Orchestra is Logic compatible but it comes as a VST and as a stand alone.

Oh yeah and lets not forget MOTU Symphonic Instrument (http://www.motu.com/products/software/msi/) Theres some videos with Jordan also.

Oh and Synful (http://www.synful.com/) I downloaded the free trial some time ago but was working with EWQLSO Silver so I didn't really work with it that much or bother to compare them.

Let us know what you decided to go for.
