I'm dying to get the sitar sound that Jordan uses in Home, or anything that sounds like it! Can anyone help me with this?

There's a really good sitar sound on the Ensoniq Project ROM for the E-MU's (which isn't available any more), which came, I believe, from an Ensoniq ASR library initially, and another good one on the Planet Earth sound module. Alternatively, buy a Line6 Variax and play it on a guitar ;)

If you listen to the audio comment on the Metropolis DVD, you will hear Jordan saying that it is a sound from a Spectrasonics CD, which can probably still be purchased.
However, right now, I am not sure if it's the sitar siund he's talking about and I am not at home this week, so I cannot check that out, nevertheless I am pretty sure.

Spectrasonics.
Look up "Electric Sitar 2"

*That's the one he's using :)*

err, im not sure if thats the right one. go to this (http://www.spectrasonics.net/libraries/metamorphosis.html) and listen to the demo called "metasoul". the sitar sounds just like the one JR uses in home and i think it comes from this cd. i might be wrong though, it could also be on the cd Drusillus mentioned.

I'm not familiar with buying sounds on a CD-ROM, so please forgive me my stupid question, but which format do the sounds on such CDs have and could I theoretically also use it with my Roland XP-30?

I know that I can buy the JV expansion boards for my synth, they are also filled with Spectrasonics sounds, but there are many more on the CD, because the JV boards have only a size of 8MB.

No the samples can't be used in a JV/XP synth. You need a sample reader (like the Fantom X) or sampler to do it. Sometimes sample libraries do offer more sounds, but part of the reason they are larger is that ROM synths compress the sounds very efficiently. You get a lot more out of 8 Meg of Rom than you do out of 8 Megs of RAM, typically.

There is a Sitar (A:101) on the XP. I think it is a pretty moderate (not too bright, not too drony) playable sound. If it needs to be made brighter, gentler on the attack, etc. you can do that within the synth. If you need a better quality sound, of course a sample library is usually much higher fidelity.

Hoping this helps,

Thank you for your explanation, Jerry. I am actually not interested in that sound, I was interested in these sound CDs in general, because I had no idea what to do with it... ;)
Thanks again.
