I've noticed that as Dream Theater as also Jordan (Rudess) himself on their newest albums mostly show their technical skills, and put melodies and ideas into background...
I think this lack of ideas is merely a result of their touring, because they acctually never have vacation...
What do you think?

I don`t think is lack of ideas, I think is just the way they wanna go with their music.

They really have no lack of ideas. They have decided to do a very heavy album when they wrote the music or Train of Thought - do you want them to play symphonic metal or what?

The ones who were there know what I'm talking about.

They dont -have- to stick to their typical Prog-'Images and Words' style wich they get printed in everytime by fans. Would be a pile of shit if they would stuck to the same kind of writing all the time!
Remember what the word 'prog/progressive' means. And so is their music. And DT is progressing
Hey btw, Marillion are also kings of prog rock, rigtht? Look at their style now.. they're style sure changes with every album. Wether it be your taste or not, ill leave that to you hehe.

Personnaly I find ToT full of new ideas.
About their technical skills, I think they can do much more with Jordan on board and I also like them if they wouldn't show it off a lot.
Jordan told me once that they know that they have to look out for playing fast and skillfull only because they can. It's the music that counts not the skills

Would be a pile of shit if they would stuck to the same kind of writing all the time!I don't think it "would be a pile of shit" if they stuck to writing good, prog-rock songs - a la Images & Words, Awake, A Change of Seasons, most of the Falling into Infinity demos, Scenes From a Memory (personally, I didn't enjoy it, but it was indisputably a prog rock album), Feeding the Wheel or Transatlantic. Actually, I think that would be perfectly lovely.
Remember what the word 'prog/progressive' means. And so is their music. And DT is progressing  The dictionary definition of the word "progressive" may be "proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change", but the definition of the musical style prog rock isn't "changes styles from album to album".
In case you're confused as to what prog rock actually does mean:
http://www.e-prog.net/genre/define.htm
1. Combines classical music's sense of space and monumental scope with rock's raw power and energy.
2. Frequent inclusion of musical styles from other than a rock format (e.g. - classical, R&B, jazz, folk, avant-garde and world music).
3. Complex, dynamic and multi-dimensional usually featuring intricate keyboard and guitar playing (often using a Mellotron or string synth to simulate an orchestra backing).
4. A blending of acoustic, electric and electronic instruments where each plays a vital role in translating the emotion of compositions which typically contain more than one mood.
5. A mixture of loud passages, soft passages, and musical crescendos to add to the dynamics of the arrangements. Extended instrumental solos, perhaps involving some improvisation.
6. Multi-movement compositions that center on a core musical theme. Tracks predominantly on the longish side, but structured.
7. Subject matter typically drawn from science fiction, spiritual matters, mythology, fantasy and utopian literature.
This isn't my list, but it's a damn good one. It also fully explains why neither Metallica nor U2 are prog rock bands, but why both have released prog rock albums.
Hey btw, Marillion are also kings of prog rock, rigtht? Look at their style now.. they're style sure changes with every album. No, wrong - but what a great example you've brought up. Marillion haven't been a prog rock band for probably decade now - and don't take my word for it: Steve Hogarth said exactly the same thing in an interview with Classic Rock magazine a couple of years ago. You're right that they change style from album to album - but Prog Rock is a style, one that is well-defined while still having hugely broad scope for writing within it. Marillion were a prog rock band when they were releasing prog rock albums; now they aren't releasing prog rock albums, so they aren't a prog rock band. Similarly I'd be hard-pushed to label TrOT "prog" (it barely meets two of the seven criteria listed above, and only meets those two in part, not in whole), and it's really only the second disk of 6 Degrees that qualifies THAT album as prog (although, in fairness, I could see something similar to Misunderstood on a Khoroshev-era Yes album, or something like Blind Faith fitting in neatly on Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti).

There's no lack of ideas, every DT album feels totally different! DT has always been about showing off technical skills, but what is wrong with that?

I think "Train of Thought" rocks !
There was a thread in here a month or 2 ago about inspiration and what inspires us. I can honestly say that this album has definitely inspired my technical playing and I'm practicing more than I ever have. I have the feeling this CD will be in my CD player for quite some time. Probably until Rhythm of Time gets released and then that will take its place :D

I do believe is a little more about showing off their chops, than a really good melody (1st 5 songs on 6doit......my opinion), but at the end of the day, that the studd DT fans wanna hear.... if i wanted to hear piss easy stuff id listen to LTE......just kidding :)

You all have different views upon this wich is funny.
The typical describition of progrock doesnt descesarrily have to be the one counting for all songs in this genre. Youre gonna base it all on that description what that e-progsite writes? Ofcourse you do. Its a typical description.
R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues, sure thing nothing comes close to that meaning anymore nowadays.
Prog or not, to cut to the chase, i believe ToT is full with new ideas. In fact, chorusparts like in HTF and ES make me believe we're actually going somewhere new (PROGRESSIVE...). The keysolos are decent, though i like them better from other albums. I really think DT did a great job with this one. :)
