been playing with soft synths now for awhile and i have grown rather fond of them, havnt used to many, but some of the powerful free things like crystal and demos of zebra 2 and za3a+ i have found some really powerful sounds that can be created, i guess i have enjoyed the versatility more then anything

for now im running it on my gaming desktop, thats all fine, i think the sound cards nothing special but i have a quad core processor and am not running vista so everything has gone well so far. the issue arises when i consider gigging, as our band slowly gets things together, (working on buying a pa atm) taking a desktop computor to a gig seems really impractical,

at this point i looked at receptor which seems to be a rather awesome solution,

thanks to the Aussie dollar and its wonderful crash in this modern market it would cost me 4000 to buy one, (if i got the one which came with Komplete 5). at that price i could get a Roland G6, which sounds like one of the best workstations out there and without the irritations soft synths bring

money again being a issue, i couldn't likely afford either of those options

so it brings me to the idea of a laptop

could i build a laptop for around 2000 using forte that would work reliably for a gig. possible?

any sound cards you could recommend?

thanks
