I'm wondering which of these two I should go with. Basically, I'm just wanting to use it to load the samples and do all of the loops and editing with another program. So, would it be worth the extra $150 (priced at $349) to go with Kontact for the extra features, or would I be wasting my money (versus only $200 for Kompact)?

I would say go with Kompakt. I have Kontakt which is awesome but if you don't need the different synth engines like time machine I & II and the looping tools etc then you'd be better off buying Kompakt which is a great and moneywise way of playing those big sample libraries.

I think that If you want only a sample player, you'd better to buy the Kompakt.. I use it and it works very well.. enjoy it my friend!
