Hi every one.
Is there anybody who can explain me precisely, how to make a killer lead sound like jordan's.
I don't have any software...
I just want to make it on my own but i'm not what we can call an expert.
Thanks

Here (http://www.progsounds.com/category/tutorials/): analysis of JR lead and guide how to make it or something similar.
Key to prog rock lead is heavy effect processing and feedback.

His lead is a very complex one. Lots of layers in both timbres, expressions, and effects.
In this (http://www.jordanrudess.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190) old thread, he talks a bit about it himself.
Good Luck!

It doesn't explain anything... "use saw waveform..." well, deuh
I still don't get how to generate feedback... personally I sometimes tweak presets, and somehow you get this feedback effect.
Also filter distortion gives a nice effect.
Radias has a Comb filter, generates feedback... somehow... (I also know a trick with envelope controlled delay - sound like a comb filter)
And of course, very amateur approach of Jp's feedback oscillator.
Or just stacking 32 saw waveforms, without any editing... so thick that it begins to sound like feedback (or very cool anyway).
I wonder what will happen if I assign patch out to secondary output, then route it back to part 2, and then route part 2 back to secondary output, which will generate never ending loop... feedback right? Or plugging (using a mixer) Rogue output back to the input... I'm afraid the thing will create a time-space-continuum paradox and destroy the whole universe as we know it (that would be the worst case scenario I guess)
Does anyone know other, more common tricks, to generate feedback (or something cool)? (without destroying the world)

do you want actual feedback or do you just want a feedback sounding noise?
I've always made a feedback sound by assigning a single sine wave osc to be triggered with aftertouch and be tuned an octave + 5th (17 steps I think) up. Make sure you set your aftertouch to bring down the main osc volume a bit too, just so it sounds more natural.
Also, a fast LFO controlling resonance (just a bit, like 15% or something) triggered with aftertouch helps with the feedback sound as well.
Keyboard feedback isn't made in the same way that it is on a guitar, the feedback must be programmed in. Basically what you would do is have your lead sound, which may consist of a number of layers, for this example let's say 2 saw waves, and a feedback layer, let's say a sine wave, which is transposed 2 octaves up and is set very low in volume.
Assign aftertouch to lower the volume of the 2 saw waves, and raise the volume of the sine wave. You now have feedback.
In keyboard Madness, he gives a really in depth analysis of his lead, showing all the layers each in their individual form.

It won't be a feedback - just something that sounds like it.
What you get with tricks like comb filter is by far more interesting. (not even sure if it is feedback: I mean, feedback oscillator sounds NOTHING like a sine wave).

Stop depressing me. Not everyone can have aftertouch on their keybaords!! WAAAAAAAHHH!!!! :frown:
(That was not flaming, by the way. Just a (really bad) joke.)
Instead of aftertouch you could use the mod wheel or some other continuous controller

I wish I could use a continuous sustain pedal (which I have), but my keyboard only detects on or off, nowhere in between. It is probably one of the first MIDI keyboards. (OK, maybe not.)

many thanks to anatomic, this webpage is exactly what I need,
Just have now to understand it.
I understand about the layers which prog sound to put int the combi layers.
But don't know how to go on the AMq page, to modify all the sounds (in the second step)
Do you have a triton or a TR ?
I've bought it recently and don't know how to use it..it is my fisrt keyboard too.

I have Korg Karma - which is identical to Triton classic (spec/soundwise, same sound engine)
I don't have it right now, left in the house were I play in a band.
But things like that are written down in the user manuals, you should be able to find it, without any problems.
And even without manual, pages are very easy to find - just press some buttons (like patch edit, etc etc), follow the right menus logically and you will get there.

ok, i could get the user manual, but actually, the screens showed on the webpage aren't the same as my TR's.
there are so much things to know, amplitude....gain...hipass...AFTERTOUCH... hehe ;(
it seems really simple in the webpage
is there any possibility to download the sound and save it as a combi file in my TR?
what a pitty, I'm such a beginner
