View Full Version : Getting a 7 string Ibanez tomorrow!!
Playing hooky from work tomorrow, (coff! coff! Not feeling good...[excuse] :P ) getting on a greyhound bus and travelling to pickup my ebay purchase.
1 used Ibanez RG 7 string strat with floydrose lic. trem. ;D
Scored it for $306usd
Wizard Neck, custom 5 way PU selector, gig bag.
Should go real nice with my newly acquired Velodyne 400w subwoofer. ;D
Also cool is I've never owned a guitar with 24 frets let alone 7 strings! 8)

Sure the body has a few nicks, if I find the finish too hurtin' I can always strip it and spray a new finish on 'er. ;)

Sweet, man, I have an Ibanez GRX720 7-string and it's a lovely guitar to play... not that I really use it for the Nu Metal that it was designed for ;-) Makes a great blues guitar though!
24 fret necks can take a bit of getting used to, I've had a couple of guitars (Washburn Mercury MG44 and a Squier Showmaster 7) with 24 frets, never felt comfortable with either so sold them on to friends in fairly short order. So I hope you get to grips with yours quickly enough :)
Peace

Very nice Rexx, awesome guitar, I hope you post some clips when you get it, would be good to hear it....
I just purchased my new guitar a couple of days ago and really happy with it. Its a Godin Freeway Classic in blueburst with maple neck and board, which has just come out....

7 strings rules!!, think in the unbeliebably heavy things you can do with it!!!
Got it for $400 canadian
These list for $1000usd
Checking the neck it had some nicks and dings (I hate dead spots)
= I sanded the neck with 240grit carbide sand paper which leaves the neck feeling baby powder smooth.
A little fret wear = I crowned the frets.
I put on a new set of D'Addario .009 - .042 (w/ .052 B)
Adjusted the spring tension because it was set up for 10's thru .056
Tighted every screw on the guitar. (especially the neck/body screws)
Damn decent axe for the money.
Critique:
TRS Lo Edge Pro tremolo arm missing = bought a new one $20
Bridge humbucker has excessive 60hz hum (coils not matched)
= I'll have to modify the pickup by removing wire from the hotter coil to match Dc resistance.
(This is a better solution than buying a replacement 7 string humbucker!)
The neck headstock was previously broken and reglued (damn gig bags)
= I sanded out the roughness.
Tone pot didn't work = resoldered tone pot.
Tuners were loose = tightened tuners with phillips screw driver
No clips yet. It'll take alittle getting used to 8)
Nice clip of you playing your new Godin Axe2Grind!
I don't own a Godin but they make excellent instruments
Wow! This is now my best guitar!!
I should sell all my old axes and start collecting Ibanez's off ebay.
The wizard neck smokes anything I've ever played.
Got the trem to flutter by simply tightening the trem arm
Damn good deal

Thanks Rexx, Its probably the best guitar I've owned so far and is really comfortable for me which is the main thing. I've never played a 7 string before but have heard some amazing things from them, like slap bass technique's and amazing scalar runs, have you check Rusty Cooley out yet ?, he's an amazing 7 String guitarist. Anyways, have a great time with your new axe, its a beast... 8)

Well you know IBANEZ ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! look my name :P
never buy something else than ibanez
I'm a big fan of Steve Vai and he worked directly with Ibanez to develop the Jem and Universe series guitars. Then he had Ibanez proptype a 7 string with a custom locking Floyd Rose licenced tremolo, 7 pole pickups...
I only could dream of ever owning one.
Now that I've had it for 5 days I've noticed just how much DT music is based around 7 string. Even some DT songs without 7 string can become more understandable if that makes any sense.
Now what do I do with my other guitars?
I already took one to a consignment store to see if it will sell.
