Tesla Coils

I saw a hand-held Tesla Coil built into the casing of a B&Q drill with a 12V battery today, made by RMCybernetics. This can light lightbulbs from a short distance, and is heralded as a 'weak plasma gun'. I've thought lately about makng a large Tesla Coil, but this looks to be more fun. Have any of you guys made a Tesla Coil? Is it hard/complex? Or am I the only guy here interested in physics:tongue:?

I thought this was gonna be about the tesla coils that they used to make music. Super Mario Brothers theme on tesla coils. Heck yes \m/

I've seen videos of people making those themselves for music too, connected to little Casio keyboards. Make a tesla coil for that!

That would probably be fun, but nowhere near as fun as running around with a weak 'plasma gun'.

How could I use one to make music?
