View Full Version : Trilogy Suite - an attempt...

I was noodling around with the solos from Trilogy Suite and made a little backing for that. When I was through with them I decided I could just as well do the rest of the first part as well, so here it is:
Trilogy - first part (http://www.staffanlindroth.com/songs/Trilogy%20Suite.mp3) Edit: Remixed 5/7-04!
Some of the figures are kind of hard to get perfectly in time, so things may be floating around a bit at times... :)
Edit: The levels are a bit uneven I notice... I guess all of the "hyperdraw" settings didn´t work right when I bounced the final mix.

I noticed this as well (similarity in tone to richard anderson, and I really enjoy his tone), a very good playing indeed. Also that jazzy part of the end, that was very cool

Cool playin :keys:
What about the drums?
The drums sounds really good!
What gear did you use?
BTW I don't know the original version :P I know that is Malmsteen!

Thanks y´all!
Yep! Is Malmsteen (or Johansson, rather. Jens did all the cool parts, I think, and composed that cool bass line).
The drums are a sampled Yamaha kit that I run in Battery. I use DFH mostly otherwise but I felt like trying this bundle out also, got it from a friend I think. I tried to follow the original drum part most of the way. It´s kind of therapeutic to program drums I think. If you´re not feeling all that creative you can always sit down for a few hours with the drum map...
That jazzy ending  was more of an experiment. I think the whole song has a certain swing feel to it actually. Might sound nice in a big band arrangement... Stay tuned...

That was really cool ... :) , I loved it , was it difficult to learn by heart?

Thanks! I guess the solos were the difficult ones to get down well, then again I didn´t play Yngwie´s solos note by note but tried to pick out some of his stuff and add some of my own... The rest of it isn´t all that hard to learn (if you´re familiar with some harmonic minor and diminished figures... :) ). At first I did the intro solos also, but they were a bit hard to get up to Yng´s speed, so I had to skip those. Some other time maybe...
Also, I have now remixed it. I lowered the lead slightly during the "verses" and raised the bass track over all. I think it got somewhat lost earlier. Same link still.
Feel free to add me on MSN and I´ll send over the lead and fx settings. I used Pro53 and Amplitube for these leads (the two channels are slightly different).
e-mail: sloth@kth.se (I use that one on MSN).

Excellent work Quili....I love that Trilogy album, was one of the first albums that really made me work on my lead playing. Love your lead sound too, fits the song really well, glad I'm not the only using software for my leads, what with everyone here armed with Tritons and Kurz's.
:D

Yep! Software synths are so much easier on your back and legs... and on your wallet too! I mean, the trial versions are...

Amazing stuff, Quili. I didn't know the song, I'm not fond on Malmsteen, but I enjoyed it very much. Really nice!

Hej Quili,
That was cool... the leads are good but some places you can feel the latency kicking... but who cares that was good.

WOW! That was freakin awesome! I'm a huge fan of Yngwie, and more so of Jens! (Still waiting for someone to bust out the keyboard solos from Will The Sun Rise?)
Keep it up!

Thanks again for the nice words! About the latency kicking, I have a feeling it´s a non-computer related latency in this case :) . I guess I just wanted to get all the parts down, not really being too nit-picky about it... I might redo some of the phrases to get a final version of it...

That sounds really great man! I like it alot for sure. The lead sounds indeed like karmakanics richard andersson. The solos are great.
You do sound like Johansson hehe.
How did you study this? You still got the midi?

Hey J-Man
You mean the Stratovarius one?
I think hardest thing on solo would be second trade solo,
but at least you can have sheet music.. erhm... erhm...
I'll give a try and find out if it's too hard for me.
you guys have no idea how hard this is too play on guitar compared to keys. still 'kin good playing. happens to be my favourite malmsteen piece song too...
Quili

It´s about equally hard I would say. Much depending on what skills you possess I would imagine  .
Also, some of the figures are much less natural for keys than for guitar. Like the part with the loose g string (hmmm) in the bottom... Hence the rearrangement...
This recording is by no means perfect... Most things apart from solos are pretty much first takes that I thought were "good enough" for the moment...

Kick ass man!! I did something similar with Far Beyond th Sun, Blackstar, and the Marching out intro. Mine's pretty decent but yours is better.
Right on!!
