Ok, I took the midi file of Home solo from JR's site and played it through my synth by using Cubase. Share your opinion. It's trying to be a wannabe-jr-lead :)

That's a very good lead!
Have you got a patch for that for KORG Triton? :D

I just added some distortion to it and I think it sound even cooler now.

Sounds awesome! I think it has just a touch too much portamento on it though.

Agreed - the portamento needs to be much faster. The lead sounds better with the distortion but the port/ HAS to be faster. The lead would also sound much better with some attack too, maybe like a slight pick attack or something similar :)

Actually, I liked the first version without the distortion better, although it could still use some attack added to it. I think the portamento time sounds pretty good on it as well.
What synth was that on?

Fantom X and NI Pro-53. Distortion was made with Guitar Suite.

The portamento sounds about right to me. It'd get diluted
anyway in a real mix. The distortion sounds fine too, but
I could do without.
Great job overall!

That sounds just great, clean or distorted. And I agree that the portamento is about right. That Fantom is a sweet synth, isn't it?

Yeah, it's awesome. I love the new piano, it's so realistic. 8)

He did say though that it was a "wannabe jr lead" meaning I suspect he wants to have it sound like JR's lead - in that case the portamento is too slow...
