Hej Magnus,

are you looking for a keyboard or a synthesizer? I own myself a Yamaha PSR-730 wich isnt being made anymore but it has a lot of REALLY good sounds. Great strings, great vibes, great brass. Basically great random sounds..

Remember these keyboards are meant to be used to as a *oneman-band*. Yamaha PSR's just dont do the thing when being used in a group-band.

Perhaps you're interested in some cheaper synthesizers for in your band? Do you want to do a lot of soloing? Or are you more interested in piano sounds and the playing itself then all those technical details? Perhaps you want to create sounds yourself. If either of the answers to these questions are 'yes', then a synthesizer is your call, either weighted keys or non-weighted.

You cant get any more sound out of synthesizer than -you- tell it/play it out of it. So no yamaha psr-styles and multipads!
UNLESS you buy a music workstation or sampler... but thats another story.

I'd recommend you to check out some Roland RS-x (x standing for a number) synthesizers or a Yamaha s-xx (S03 etc). A synthesizer is very different from a PSR though, keep that in mind.

About the recording program, Im using Cooledit Pro 2.1 atm. Very easy and simplistic, just enough to around with. Next to that I got Cubase and Fruity Loops whenever I need them.

i need a synth for a band, or at least some duet with drums.
i want that my synth will be with some good sounds like the sound in "Erotomania" or "Learning to Live".
maybe someone can tell me, someone that played on PSR that good in duets...

btw "Taurus" if you got icq plz talk to me, you sounds like a very nice dude...

well, both actually. It's possible that you can play a whole show by yourself *as I've done both with the Casio Wk2500 and a Kurzweil 2500 - It's all in what you do with it*

The thing about playing in a band is being able to blend. It's more about YOU and less about the keys you use but the more flexible the keyboard, the more likely you'll be able to sneak into the mix :)

I'd honestly say take a look - it's an amazing beginning/intermediate keyboard for sure!

Yeah, I agree with Enigma, the important thing is that you feel confortable with the sounds and the feel of he keys (beeing weighted or non weighted).

i once owned a PSR 500 and didn`t like the sounds, specially piano after a while, so I bought myself a Roland XP10 wich is a synth, then I felt I needed good lead sounds and a little more flexibility in making my own sounds, so I bought a Yamaha CS2x, and now I felt the I needed vintage sounds ( like mellotron and hammond organ) so I sold the Roland and bought myself a E-MU Proteus 1000 with a midi master keyboard.

So you see, a changed keyboards when I didn`t feel confortable with the sounds I had, and when I felt a little stuck with the sounds I`ve got.
Keep that in mind. Feel free to ask anything.
And welcome to the forum

Is that a Korg MS 2000 in your Avatar ? Do you own one ? I kinda like that board. I sat in with a group that had one and it seems to have some really nice analog on board sounds. If you have that board now, I'd hold onto it even if you get something else :D

Wow, someone actually gave a plug for my playing (or my keyboard & sounds at least, but hey, it's a start  )

Magnus, do you have *MSN messenger* as well?

Too bad you hate Roland. But I know prices always play a role with limited budgets, like mine. Rolands are simply cheaper and you get a good load back for your money.
If you like kevin moore sounds then I can just say the usual: buy a JD-800. But I think you'll have to go with the advice of the other people here :)

Be sure you heard all synths and played on them yourself though before buying it. There are usually things you discover when you actually play on them, like an awful keybed. Or perhaps a very annoying way of selecting your sounds (could be blocking you when switching patches on stage if you dont have an extra pedal). Ofcourse when youre in the higher priceclasses these problems are usually solved and you wont have to worry.

Still, test before buy. Key-action is often about personal opinion as well, and you wont know if you like it untill you tested it.
